Statistical Applications in Criminology and Criminal Justice Lecture Series 2014-2015

Qualitative Analysis
Dr. Jody Miller

The field of criminology and criminal justice is undoubtedly one dominated by quantitative methodologies. Yet qualitative research has much to contribute to our understandings of crime, law, and justice. How does one accomplish this? This workshop offers an overview of this question. My goals are twofold. First, to familiarize you with some of the inductive analysis strategies necessary to ensure the rigor of qualitative research. Second, to illustrate how to successfully engage with the extant literature, and produce scholarly articles in which qualitative research makes meaningful theoretical contributions that advance criminology and criminal justice knowledge-building.
